About Kolorko Kennel

Kolorko Kennel was established in 1992 by the husband-and-wife team of Michael and Dee Klatt, born out of the love for a single red and white Border Collie puppy named Chloe. What began as a young couple’s dream on Brisbane’s outer northside has grown into a lifelong passion: breeding dogs for beauty, brains, and impeccable temperament.

Over the past 30+ years, we’ve proudly bred and raised 13 carefully planned litters under the Kolorko prefix, including 11 Border Collie litters, one Golden Cocker Spaniel litter, and one very special Chihuahua litter.

Our name, Kolorko, is a nod to our vision from the very start, “Colour Companion”, reflecting our goal to produce Border Collies in a spectrum of colours: red and white, chocolate and white, and of course, the classic black and white. But it has always been about more than just looks. We breed dogs that are intelligent, loyal, trainable, and most importantly, family.

Family First, Competition Second, Breeding Third

To us, every dog is family. They are raised in our home, loved and trained, and with us for life. This is whether they become show dogs, sporting competitors, mums and dads, or simply treasured companions. Not every dog is destined to compete or breed, but every one of them is precious and irreplaceable.

We are proud competitors in the ANKC ring and passionate advocates of responsible breeding. Our dogs have earned titles across obedience, rally, scent work, agility, tricks, sprint dog, tracking and conformation, proof of their capability, temperament, and trainability.

We breed with intent, not impulse. Every pairing is carefully considered, based on pedigree research, health testing, temperament, and structure. Our bloodlines include respected names from Australia, NZ, USA, France, Hungary, and Poland, brought together to preserve the best of the past while enhancing the future.

We also preserve our legacy through frozen semen collections of our most outstanding dogs, ensuring that their influence can continue for generations to come.

A huge part of who we are today is thanks to the mentorship and friendship of Des and Sandra Strong of Borderstrong Border Collies.

Their faith in us and their bloodlines helped build Kolorko from a dream into a kennel name of substance and integrity. In continuing their legacy, we aim to pay it forward, sharing our knowledge and bloodlines with like-minded breeders who share our respect for quality and purpose-driven breeding.

We love competing with our dogs and regularly participate in obedience, rally and the show ring.

Many of the puppies we breed go on to do well in agility, obedience, rally, conformation and other sports, and we’re proud to breed dogs with both beauty and brains!
